The Modesto Ski Club was founded in 1936 by a group of pioneering people who held their first meeting at Modesto Junior College. The club’s original membership consisted of 60 members, and they built their first cabin in Strawberry Ca. It was two years before the cabin had electricity. It cost 50 cents a night to stay at the cabin on weekends, or 25 cents a night on weekdays.

The club’s popularity grew, and in 1955, members found a vacant, old post office for sale in Pinecrest, which became the Modesto Ski Club’s second lodge. The new nightly cost rose to $2 per night.

In 1970, the search team of Cliff Wagoner and Ken Lugliani found the current property where our lodge sits today in Truckee Ca. On May 18, 1974, the members broke ground. All the labor was donated by the club members and the lodge was completed later the same year.
